What about now?

What about now? That is the newest single from the debut album of the band called Daughtry. If you where to be an MTV or VH1 maniac, or a fan of mainstream Rock; you probably know what this band is. But if you don't, here's the deal: Daughtry was founded by Chris Daughtry, one of the runner-ups of the famous American Idol. The band has gone through a lot of fame, and undoubtly, rabid fans. But if there's something missing from here is, you guessed it, Originality.

Daughtry is band with a lot of publicity. Since a lot of people watch American Idol, fans of the show have yet another band to relate to. The concept of the band was easy to make, since Chris Daughtry made some auditions, took some members, and used the name Daughtry for recognizing purposes within the Music community.

In reality, I've never truly liked this band at all. It's too mainstream, and altough the voice of the musician is rather nice and clever, I can't help but to feel that it might be just too mainstream as well. I am not really into Pop Rock at all, so you can possibly get what I'm going through.

Their debut album recently however, released yet another single 'What about Now'. The music video revolves around a lot of footages around world poverty or one of those 'eye-opening journeys' some people are doing lately. It has a lot of disaster footages and whatnot. While the music video is undoubtly touching, I just can't help but to feel that it just didn't work out.

Maybe it's just me, but I can't help but to feel that the song didn't fit the music video altogether. It did in some way, but it could have done better. First of all, besides the song being one of those 'heard it a million times before' kind of thing; I just feel that the whole poverty footages and insipiring words really didn't fit in completely.

I'm not saying footages shouldn't be using in music videos, because I actually did enjoy Sheryl Crow's Out of our Heads. But I really feel like there's an essence missing in the music video itself. There are footages in which there a live recordings of the band playing, but I can't really feel it. The live footage looked clunky, it could have been of better quality.

Altogether, I can't really tell how Daughtry has a great deal of fans. They aren't that great. From all the tracks I've heard on their debut album, they just don't seem original. Maybe I do like bands that aren't original, but this band specifically, is just a bad blend of cliche'd Pop Rock to a level in which you'll swear that every single stupid beat you might have heard in this song, you could have heard them before in some other songs by different bands or performers. This isn't a band worth checking out if you're looking to explore more in Rockdom.
